The HP Designjet 1050C was the first of HP’s new generation of plotters. It was the first machine to features the revolutionary JetExpress technology, developed by Hewlett Packard. HP Designjet 1050C is a premium-performance, color printer for medium to large work-groups of engineers, architects, CAD & GIS users, retailers, office users and print service providers in the graphics industry.
The HP Designjet 1050C provides a high print resolution, special imaging print modes and support of presentation media types, to produce the highest-quality large-format printouts available at the time.
The plotter incorporates a the modular ink system and long-life printheads, that allows the HP Designjet 1050C to print for much longer periods without replacing ink or media.
With the new HP dual-paper-feed system, unloading a roll of media to load a cut sheet is no longer required. In addition, roll-feed alignment is now automatic, within reason, and the digital display features graphic icons to improve navigation with direct access to key information, such as current ink levels, media status and printer setup.
The Designjet 1050C is available in two models for two distinctive printing modes
Designjet 1050C / 1050C+
This is primarily used for the printing of CAD and GIS drawings. It will produce high quality large format printouts; it can print in true 600 dpi or addressable 1200 dpi for monochrome. This ensures crisp lines and texts on all printouts. These can be used for reviewing existing documents or in a live construction environment. The Designjet 1050C can produce high performance and quality output for work-groups of 10 or more people. An optional 2GB hard disk is available for this machine.
The plotter is capable of processing and printing high quality line drawings at a very impressive speed, an A1 line drawing will be printed in around 45 seconds.
Designjet 1055Cm / 1055CM+
This machine is primarily for the production of high quality professional and photo-quality images, with a printing resolution of true 600 dpi. For use mainly in the graphics industry. The quality of the printouts is excellent and ensures premium results every time
The main difference between the two plotters is the Designjet 1055CM has Adobe PostScript 3 installed, as well as a 7.5GB hard disk drive.
The basic architecture of both machines is the same. Only the PostScript and the hard disk determine the main whether it is to be used for CAD drawings or for graphics. However the following are common for both plotters
High processing speed is achieved by the standard memory of 64MB, this is however upgradeable to 256MB for faster processing and the printing of more complex plots.
512 nozzles per printhead ensure a wide print is put down during each pass. This increase print speed and consequently productivity.
Data transfer can be increased by the addition of a HP 610 JetDirect card that is installed directly into the printers I/O device.
A multi roll feeder is available for both machines to enable unattended print management. This device enables the machine to print on different types and sizes of media automatically.
Both machines are capable of printing up to oversized A0 (914mm)
As previously stated this was the first of HP’s new generation of plotters. They are no longer available to purchase new. However there are a lot of 2nd user refurbished machines available. When purchasing a plotter be sure to buy one from a reputable HP certified dealer who can provide a first class, cost effective Designjet 1050c repairs service and who will offer a planned maintenance service.
In summary, the Designjet 1050C is an excellent machine for all your printing requirements. Despite being an “older” machine as long as it’s looked after and serviced regularly it will provide good service for years to comeShare on Facebook
